Adams was born to an U.S. Army officer in Italy and grew in Castle Rock Colorado. In the mid-1990s, she began professional dancing and performed at Boulder's Dinner Theatre in Colorado and Country Dinner Playhouse. Then in Minnesota, at a local theatre, she was a chosen to be a part of an unrealized documentary film about beauty pageants titled Drop Dead Gorgeous. When she made her screen debut as a charming but snarky contestant, she moved towards Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. Her name was found by Norma Shearer. Through the years that followed she was in a variety of famous films, including Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) as well as Living It Up by Martin and Lewis (a 1954 film).
